Salt Lamp
Salt Lamp
A Salt Lamp is made from a chunk of salt crystal rock that was taken from the salt mines found in underground caves in the foothills of mountains. These are from Pakistan.
The salt lamp makes use of the minerals that have been preserved for millions of years, releasing their special properties through the introduction of heat from an electric bulb or from the flame of a candle. These special properties emitted from the Salt Lamp are responsible for promoting the health and wellness of individuals via ionization of the air and the eradication of pollution.
When you light them, they give out a warm, reddish-pink glow. These decorative pieces say they do more than light up a room. They claim the lamps can boost mood, improve sleep, ease allergies, help people with asthma breathe better, and clean the air, among other benefits. Read more on WebMD
The special properties of the Salt Lamp consist of negatively charged ions that act on the contaminants in the air by neutralizing them and weighing them down so they can no longer circulate. When this occurs, individuals can breathe more easily and many ailments and allergies that frequently afflict them start to disappear.
A Salt Lamp comes in different shapes, sizes, and weights. Please do not place in a humid atmosphere – being salt, the lamp will “melt”.
The salt in these lamps comes from the Himalayas, a mountain range that stretches about 1,500 miles across Pakistan, India, Bhutan, and Nepal.
True Himalayan salt lamps come from the Khewra Salt Mine in Pakistan. The salt this mine produces has a reddish, pink, or off-white color.
How Do Himalayan Salt Lamps Work?
Advocates say the lamps work in two ways:
Pull in particles. These lamps supposedly attract allergens, toxins, and pollutants to their surface.
Possibly release negative ions. Some people believe negative ions in the air have health benefits.
Ions are molecules that have undergone a change in charge. Negative ions have gained an electron. Positive ions have lost one.
