Linghams come only from the Narmada River in India. Accessibly only during the dry season, these stones are collected from the river bed by only a few families who have been trained in the way to identify only the most special pieces. They are then shaped and polished to bring out the natural markings. The Lingham shape is representative of the power of Shiva, the Lord of Creation, the masculine creative energy. The markings, also know as the yoni< symbolize the feminine energy, the seed which is fertilized to manifest the creative power in the dance of the cosmos.

Rudraksha Seeds

There is a long tradition of wearing 108 rudraksha beads in India, particularly within Shaivism, due to their association with Shiva, who wears rudraksha garlands. The mantra Om Namah Shivaya is repeated (japa) using rudraksha beads.[16] Hindus have used Rudraksha malas as rosaries[17] for meditation purposes and to sanctify the mind, body and soul.

Rudraksha beads may be strung together as a mala and used to count the repetition of a mantra or prayer in way similar to the use of rosaries in Christianity. Most garlands contain 108 beads plus one because as 108 is considered sacred and a suitable number of times to recite a short mantra. The extra bead, which is called the “Meru”, bindu, or “guru bead”, helps mark the beginning and end of a cycle of 108 and has symbolic value as a ‘principle’ bead. Rudraksha malas usually contain beads in combinations 27+1, 54+1, or 108+1. Devi-Bhagavata Purana describes the preparation of rudraksha mala.[18]:64–65 The beads are commonly strung on silk, or on a black or red cotton thread. Less often, jewellers use copper, silver or gold wires.[19][20] The rudraksha may be damaged if strung too tightly.

Kundalini

The passionate vibration of sexual and sensual energy is strongly associated with the human need to survive as a race. The core reproductive functions of the physical body reside at the root chakra and the navel chakra. The root chakra is the primary location of male sexual energy. The male sexual organs are located at the first chakra, so male sexual energy is experienced primarily as physical. A woman’s sexual organs are located at the second chakra, so female sexual energy is experienced primarily as emotional. Both chakras are associated with sexual energy.

Kundalini—serpent-like, spiritual life force—is coiled at the base of the spine. Based on Hindu and Buddhist philosophies, this spiritual energy lies dormant until it is consciously awakened through yogic practice, and then it is channeled to the head to bring about enlightenment. Using your intention and focus, you can clear and activate the chakras, allowing kundalini to rise. As it rises, it strengthens each of the chakras on all levels and increases physical vitality. It balances your emotions and your mental outlook. The core of your spiritual foundation is stored at this chakra.

Vital Energy

The energy vibrating at the root chakra, or lack thereof, regulates your health and your passion for life. Do you have a lot of get-up-and-go or are you always tired? The lack of motivation, laziness or procrastination could stem from depression or a lack of the proper nutrition. This creates an out-of-balance root chakra because it doesn’t have enough red energy and circulating vitality. Consciously look at your diet and add more red foods. In addition, add red clothes to your life with the intention of activating energy and vitality. Use red stones, wearing them in jewelry or placing a tumbled stone in your pocket. Keep the stones nearby you at home or in your office as a reminder of your intention to make a shift. Make the decision to overcome lethargy, and make it your intention that every day in every way you are more and more motivated. Thinking these thoughts will help you actualize your goal.
