As Above, So Below

“As above, so below” is a motto associated with sacred geometry, Hermeticism, and the Tarot.

The phrase derives from a passage in the Emerald Tablet (variously attributed to Hermes Trismegistus or Pseudo-Apollonius of Tyana). The 16th-century scholar Chrysogonus Polydorus provides the following version translated from the original Arabic into Latin:

Quod est inferius est sicut quod est superius. Et quod est superius est sicut quod est inferius, ad perpetranda miracula rei unius.

In Hermeticism, the phrase can be taken to indicate that earthly matters reflect the operation of the astral plane, particularly “by other means than mundane chains of cause and effect, such as Jungian synchronicities or correspondences.”[1]

In a secular context, the phrase can refer to the idea that the microcosm reflects the macrocosm – for example, that individual or domestic ills can result from larger societal ills.

The hexagram or “Star of David”, which became a symbol of Judaism in the modern period and was placed on the flag of Israel in 1948, has its origins in 14th-century depictions of the Seal of Solomon. In 1354, King of Bohemia Charles IV prescribed for the Jews of Prague a red flag with both David’s shield and Solomon’s seal, while the red flag with which the Jews met King Matthias of Hungary in the 15th century showed two pentagrams with two golden stars.[7

The Seal of Solomon (or Ring of Solomon; Arabic: خاتم سليمان‎ Khātam Sulaymān) is the signet ring attributed to King Solomon in medieval Jewish tradition and in Islamic and Western occultism. It was often depicted in either a pentagram or hexagram shape; the latter also known as the Star of David in Jewish tradition. This ring variously gave Solomon the power to command demons, jinn (genies) and spirits, or to speak with animals. Due to the proverbial wisdom of Solomon, his signet ring, or its supposed design, it came to be seen as an amulet or talisman, or a symbol or character in medieval and Renaissance-era magic, occultism, and alchemy.

The legend of the Seal of Solomon was developed primarily by medieval Arabic writers, who related that the ring was engraved by God and was given to the king directly from heaven. The ring was made from brass and iron, and the two parts were used to seal written commands to good and evil spirits, respectively.  In a variant of the tale of the ring of Polycrates from Herodotus, the demon eventually threw the ring into the sea, where it was swallowed by a fish, caught by a fisherman, and served to Solomon.[1]

“Whether or not you are conscious of them, you have many invisible helpers around you every moment of your life. Imagine them there or just know that a large group of invisible helpers are ready to come to your aid. They’re watching over you, inspiring you, and guiding you along your path through life. They’re with you 24/7, when you are sleeping and when you are awake. And they’re just a thought away when you’re ready to be conscious of them. Angels have a high vibration and provide energetic assistance to us upon request. The personalities and qualities of these spiritual beings bring a plethora of positive vibes to your spiritual table.

Angels and archangels are androgynous, neither masculine nor feminine. While humankind has personified them to look like humans with wings and flowing robes, they are actually beings of light, color, and vibration. Angels act and react based on the thoughts of their human charges. They respond to prayers, requests, and petitions. They act as Divine messengers, communicating guidance and wisdom as well as the orchestration of synchronicity upon request based on Divine will and the highest good of all concerned.

In this book, you will learn about the most common angels of light, color, and vibration and how to work and play with them to create a happy, balanced life. The angelic realm is waiting for you to give them permission to help and need specific requests to activate their assistance. Because humans have free will, angels need to be asked to assist us or intervene on our behalf. They respond to thoughts and “hear” what you are thinking if you want them to help. To gain angelic assistance, simply think of the type of assistance you need or want. Determine the area of life to which it pertains. Then ask the everyday angel to guide you and inspire you to achieve that goal or intention.”
