About the stone: Jade is a name for two minerals with similar toughness and appearance.  Jadeite is the more highly prized harder mineral, while Nephrite is more prolific and softer.  Jadeite is a sodium aluminum silicate with diopside while nephrite is magnesium, calcium silicate with the presence of iron. Nephrite is composed of interlocking fibrous crystals, while Jadeite is composed of granular crystals.
