About the stone: Black tourmaline (schorl) is an iron-rich aluminum borosilicate often containing other impurities. Tourmaline crystallizes in the trigonal system, and the crystals are typically long with vertical striations and triangular when viewed at length. Shorter, more tabular crystals may also occur. Tourmaline exhibits piezoelectricity, an electric charge that becomes evident when you rub the crystal along its vertical axis.
