Chalcedony is named for the ancient seaport of Chalcedon. Cylinder seals made of this stone date back to 2500 BC. Chalcedony was used in the Jewish High Priest's Breastplate, with inscribed gems representing the twelve tribes of Israel, which was worn by Moses’ brother Aaron.
